State upgrading snow plow fleet

HARTFORD — Snow storms are probably one of the last concerns of motorists fighting summer traffic, but state transportation officials are already looking ahead to winter road clearing.
The Department of Transportation is moving now to replace aging snow plows. More than half of the state's fleet of snow-plowing trucks are past their useful life span, an agency spokesman said.
Last month, the DOT got permission to reallocate $6 million to purchase 45 replacement trucks. The approval came just three weeks before the 2012 fiscal year ended on June 30.
